The start of the new year for the Four-in-Art Quilt group begins with today's reveal.
The theme for this series of quilted projects is Color.
Our sub-theme for this quarter was "microscopic."
Tomorrow's post is about my journey with this project.
Now, I want to show the small wall hanging I made for this project.
"A Closer Look into the Stem" wall hanging measures 20" x 20".
The petals are raw edge pieces.
The center (a microscopic illustration of a stem) on fabric,
which you see below, was quilted to a layer of batting.
as were the petal pieces (seen below).
This was put onto the backing fabric and I quilted around the main areas of the piece.
The triangle corners hold a dowel to hang the quilt with one nail in the wall.
I hope you will look at the other members' projects
and visit me tomorrow to for a bit more detail on the design details of my project.

That's SO beautiful Nancy! I love it! You ability to quilt with such detail and intricacy is outstanding! Bravo! (I always feel so inadequate when I see others' wonderful works of art!)
I absolutely love the beautiful texture of your quilting and the way you have captured the lacy quality of the stem cross-section. To use it as the centre of your flower is genius.
That really is the most extraordinary, intricate quilting and it looks wonderful in the centre of your sunflower. Such a clever idea and beautifully done :)
That is just stunning. The center stitching makes such a dramatic impact.
Very pretty piece. I love how the microscopic center stem part looks like the center of a sunflower anyhow. When I saw your stitching it resembled what I was doing, but yours is a totally different end. Wonderful.
I cannot wait to read the deconstruct on this wonderful piece! I've done some raw-edged sunflowers, but the centers pale in comparison to yours. Your "hint" gave no idea that this wonderful center was the end result!
I'm with Betty on this--so curious as to how you "constructed" these petals and flower, as you merely tease us with the idea. Having said that, I want to tell you how terrific this is! I love the petals, all splaying out from that cross-sectioned piece of stem at the center, the balance of the black/white with the inherent visual movement of those gossamer-looking petals--so wonderful in idea and in execution! Great job!

This is such a wonderful flower! The inner part of the flower is amazing. I really liked seeing the backside of the quilt before the green backing was put on -- it looked like a delicate pencil line drawing. Your petals are beautiful and you have added so much dept to them. Congrats!

Thank you very much for the comment. I never noticed that the back looked like a pencil drawing until a few readers mentioned it. Now I have another idea for "thread drawing."
