Fitting Quilting Into a Busy Week

The past week has been a busy one.
I worked on cleaning the house for our visitors from Seattle.
Our daughter, son-in-law and their 2 friends were coming to spend two nights.

Two weeks ago I bought paint. I had a coupon--buy one can, get one can free. Without much thought I began painting the walls in guest bathroom. I don't know what I was thinking! I had to patch the small marks in the drywall so the paint and walls looked really good. Then the towel racks were worn. I refinished them. It was a week-long project. I am very happy with it. I found that the small quilt I made for The Endeavourers Challenge group went well with the colors in the flooring and the newly painted towel racks!

The guest bathroom is ready was ready for the visitors!
I only need to hang a new shower curtain.
The one I found online is sold out!
But, I found fabric to make one.
And I think I will like it even more!

How did I fit quilting in this week?
1. I dropped 3 quilts off to the quilter at her store.
I saw fabric I knew would work for the shower curtains
and bought it, so I didn't lose out like
I did with purchasing the online curtain.
2. I used EQ to design a shower curtain.
The details will be appliqued.

3. I made two Halloween potholders for the visitors!

Then my embroidery machine got a wad of thread wound up in it.
That was time to STOP and it goes in to get fixed!

MY  HALLOWEEN SHARE
is a scrappy table runner.

The backing is some fabric from my stash.
I had just enough for the back.

AND THE FRONT

I wanted the Jack-O-Lantern faces to appear as if they are floating
on the table runner in a ghostly manner.

HOW I DID IT:

This project came about after I cut all my orange scraps
into various quilt pieces using my Accuquilt dies.
I sewed the leftover pieces together this way and that way,
forming 4 (somewhat) square blocks of "new" fabric.
I trimmed these "new" fabric blocks to 12" squares and sewed them together.
The table runner is 12" x 48".
I fused Steam-A-Seam Lite to the back of black fabric
and cut out shapes for Jack-O-Lantern eyes, noses, and mouths.
They were fused to the scrappy orange background.
I layered the backing, batting and top and quilted a pumpkin shape
around each of the Jack-O-Lantern faces, adding a stem as I came to the tops.
I stippled the space around all the Jack-O-Lanterns.
I added some ridges, like pumpkins have, to the inside of the Jack-O-Lantern outlines.
The binding is black fabric.

I like using all the scraps of fabric I accumulate from quilting.
This project has given me ideas for using
those tiny leftovers from Accuquilt die cutting for
green table runners with flowers flowing along it,
blue with stars, or sea shells and starfish,
red with black polka dots,
and I am sure more will come to mind!

Ghostly Quilting for Val's Tuesday Archives Link

Today is Tuesday and we are linking our Ghastly Quilting Themed blogs with Val's Quilting Studio. I did not think "Ghastly" was quite what my Halloween-themed quilts were, so I will use the title Ghostly

I thought it would be better to place photos of my quilts in one blog and reduce your linking time so you can visit all of the quilters who have linked with Val. I enjoy participating in the Tuesday Archives. I like sharing my ideas with others (hope you all like it, too) and getting inspiration from others.

So, here are some of the Halloween quilts, large, small, long and tiny that I have created in the past  8 years or so. Let me know which one(s) are your favorite(s).

Long Kaleidoscopic Table Runner:
I had this cut of fabric

And turned it into this long table runner. Close up of one of the blocks. I will be quilting it with a spider web design.

Wishing Owl
This is Halloween-related, I think. I taught this as a class for children at the local Art Council this summer. His little pocket in front could hold candy treats. The idea came from Quilting Arts Magazine.

The Halloween Wavy Banner
was made to hang on the front door. I used it as one of the inspirational ideas on the pattern I designed and uploaded on  PatternSpot.com.

Haunted House
This is a wall hanging I made for my younger daughter during her first year of college to decorate her dorm room during the Halloween season. (And this is the only photo I have, sorry it is not the largest file size for clarity.)

Table Topper
I finished this quilt last year for the table. I used some leftover Halloween themed fabrics in more of a random placement.

Thank you for taking a look. I do hope you get inspired for the season. I am off to see what others have posted.

Happy Quilting!
