We were to design a block using 2 colors.
I saw the block in a quilt book I was looking at and decided to use it.
I didn't have much time left in May to make a large project.
I made one block and decided to make a table mat to give as a Christmas gift this December.
I drew the block in EQ7.
I made a few layouts and realized this block was used to make the Storm at Sea quilt.

I wanted to use my Accuquilt GO! Cutter with the Triangle in a Square die.
I do not have a die for the 4" finished Half Square Triangles in the corners, so I cut them myself.
(I have this on my wish list.)
The center baffled me for a moment. I printed the templates from EQ7.
The center square I cut with a rotary cutter, but the triangles in the corners could be cut with the triangles in the Economy die that came with the cutter. That helped save time.

That makes a great Christmas gift! The colors in the drawn green and cream block almost make the lines seemed curved, but your piece looks straight. I don't know if it's the reversal of color, or the quilting lines, but I found that really interesting. Thanks for showing possible variations and combinations, too. I like it.. I've pieced a Storm At Sea with the traditional block and it was not fun. This block looks much easier to do. I did that one in Purple, Black and Red. I'm so happy you participated in Opposites Attract today Thank you Nancy.

I really like this block and it looks great in a full sized quilt.
I didn't recognize the block at first. I've made a storm at sea but with separate pieces constructed as blocks. Thanks for sharing.

I was shocked when you showed that it was the Storm at Sea block. I'm been impressed with quilt kits that I have seen lately for "heart" quilts made from the Storm at Sea block. I think I also saw a whale quilt. I adore your block. Someone is going to be extremely happy this year when Christmas rolls around and your are inspiring us to get busy. As a matter of fact, Christmas in July will be here soon. Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration.

Thank you for including your use of the Accuquilt dies, I'm trying to get better at doing that. Currently I just end up frustrated.
I believe I saw something new at each blog on the hop today. On yours, it was the offset blocks. I've made storm at sea blocks but never have seen them offset, very cool.
I just kept saying ohhh ahhh with each new picture. You were on a roll with this one and for good reason - great designs with simple blocks.
One of my favorite blocks--thanks for showing alternate colors in the block and the offset quilt--EQ is great, isn't it? (Accuquilt too!)

The off set layout makes for a very interesting arrangement. That's what's so fun about playing with a block design. Finding new ways to use it.
