I'm one of the bloggers
I made this wall hanging to display for Valentine's Day. And even though it was celebrated a few days ago, it's a great project to show.
For years I intended to make a project using the Twister technique. The blog hop gave me the impetus I needed. And, I found the perfect project at Freemotion by the River, by Connie. She designed a free pattern of a small heart project that I thought would be just the thing.
I didn't have a Twister template, but Connie's directions told how to make a paper template. After I gathered the red fabrics I wanted to use, I was ready to begin.
I sewed the squares as directed.
I think the Twister template would have given me more finger safety than the paper (I incurred no injury). I should have tried using a 24mm rotary cutter rather than my 45mm rotary cutter.
My layout of pieces on the ironing board. Each had a twister turn and are showing possibilities!
Finally, sewn, row by row for a finished top! I quilted it corner to corner.
On the back I used a technique I learned from Ammi Sims to make a hanger.
She cuts squares for the corners and folds them in half. Sew them on before adding the binding. I added two loop-type hangers to help keep the center from falling out. I did not have a long dowel; so, for now I used a ruler as a hanging rod.
After quilting the top, it measured 20" x 20". Thank you for visiting.
Below, is the list of blog hop participants for today and tomorrow. If you missed some of the other days, HERE is the complete list.

Your heart is beautiful!! Connie would be so happy that you used her pattern to create your lovely heart - perfect for Valentine's Day!!
Beautiful heart quilt. I've never used that technique, but it looks fun.
I’ve also been intrigued by the twister quilt for years. I’ll have to check out that tutorial.
A lovely heart! I think my fingers would have been in danger if I used paper glad yours were not.
Your twister heart is beautiful! Looks like a challenging technique.
It;s a great project, and it took patience and attention to get it done without injury. Thanks for sharing ir with us today
Beautiful twister heart! Something like this has been on my to-do list for awhile. Thanks for sharing!
Very nice! I wondered how those blocks were made. Thanks for the explanation.
I've never made a twister quilt, but your red one is definitely inspiring. I love the look you created with your twister and having a hanger on the back is something I like to do too. Thank you for sharing this very sweet red project and hopping with us, Nancy!
I've never tried that technique. Thought it was much more complicated than your post indicates. Your's turned out beautifully.
Twister quilts have always intrigued me and I'm loving this one with the fabrics you choose. Thanks for showing the quilt hanging set up again. I do remember seeing it long ago, but had completely forgot about it.
Beautiful heart quilt! Thanks for sharing, and showing the quilt hanging set up!
That looks great! I did the same quilt last week. I had admired Connie’s pattern for so many years and I love the results. I did mine with a light background, but I love the dark.
What a great quilt! I've never made a twister quilt but was always intrigued by the design. How interesting you made your own template. I may have to give this a try. You did a beautiful job! Thank you for sharing how to add squares to the back to make a hanger.
What a fun project, and interesting technique. Thanks for sharing!
Very beautiful. It looks like a fun project.
It's great to see your project Nancy.. I did actually buy this ruler and had planned to do something with it, then like some things in life it got set aside and I never did do anything. Your project inspires me to get it out of the drawer again and find that project that I liked enough in the first place to buy the ruler. I'm usually not so likely to buy one of those specialty rulers, so I have to always be really inspired by the project to take the plunge. I'm inspired again... thank you!!
I love your Twister project. I have the Twister tool but have never used it!! I think your idea of adding those loops to the center was a great idea.
Great Twister project. I used that method of making a hanger for the first time on the back of a shoe collage that I did recently and really love how easy and good it is.
Well done, it's gorgeous - I have a twister template but have never tried it - after looking at yours - I must!!
Who can resist a pretty heart?
Gorgeous heart project! Intrigued with your use of a dark background as it totally changes the typical light background effect. Thanks for joining in the hop as well as sharing your project & hanging tips.
Oh I love your twister heart.
It always amazes me using the twister template - changes plain patchwork into such interesting designs.
I love the twisted heart so much! And what a great way to hang a small quilt! Thanks for sharing.
I have a lil twister template somewhere, now your cute quilt makes me want to try it again.
I agree with the other comments... your lovely project makes me want to look for my template and make one... such a sweet project for Valentine's day!
I love this heart using the twister. Was given one, but have never used it, but now I want to make this beautiful quilt!!! 👏👏
