Garden Row Along Starts Soon

HI!

I will be participating for a 6th year of row alongs hosted by Marian from Seams To Be Sew.

This year the theme of the Row Along is "gardens" and things that have to do with gardens.

There are 48 quilt designers featured on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting September 8, 2020, through October 8, 2020. Each of us will have a free pattern for visitors to our URLs during our featured week. If you miss that week, they will be available to purchase. Schedule time on these days to get the free patterns.

There are also many companies sponsoring this Row Along with chances for prizes available to the visitors. To see the prizes, visit Marian's post HERE. I want to thank Northcott Fabrics, especially, for supplying each of the designers with 1 yard (or 4 fat quarters) of fabric to use in our designs. This is such a help to all of us, particularly with coordination of many blocks.

My block will be featured on Thursday, September 10, 2020. I have various technique ideas to make this block your own!

WOW! What Do You Think About the First Week of Quilt Blocks?

Wow! Have you seen the great blocks from this past week's blog hop designers? This was the first week of the Once Upon A Story Blog Hop and I can't wait for the coming weeks!

I want to make the unicorn that Marney of Made by Marney, designed, as well as read the story, The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle, that inspired her block. Even though this fantasy novel was published in 1968, I have never heard of it. And there was an animated fantasy film made in 1982 based on the book. With my two girls growing up about 1990, they never watched this as a video!

The Three Little Pigs story becomes 3 sweet blocks sewn together. Becca of Pretty Piney designed an easy block to sew. I love the idea of using scrap strips, I have so many! I can see using up many of my scrap fabric strips, making it into a multi-colored toddler size quilt!

Then, The Wizard of Oz, a book written by L. Frank Baum and published in 1899, has a beautiful block designed by Renee, of Renee's Quilting Addiction. She used some lovely Stonehenge Gradations Ombre fabrics. She shows how one cut of fabric can be used to create quilt pieces that vary so much. She also has a nice tutorial on using the EQ Inkjet Fabric Sheets. The main block she designed would be useful as a background for many quilted projects. I am thinking a great background for flower cutouts.

And who hasn't jumped (or wanted to) on a bed? Well, the fun block Carol has on her blog, Just Let Me Quilt, would make a humorous wall hanging in a child's room (although it might give the little one a mischevious idea). The classic finger play, nursery rhyme, Five Little Monkeys, (with origins unknown, was first published as an illustrated book by Eileen Christelow,) was the inspiration for her block. As a kindergarten teacher, my students loved doing the finger motions for this rhyme.

Pamela of PamelaQuilts has an interest in European history and has found nursery rhymes rooted in historical events. She has thoughtfully interpretted the rhyme, "I Had a Little Nut Tree," into a quilt block based on some historical naming of quilt blocks that is quite nice.

Marian, of Seams To Be Sew, posted about the 5 Years of Row Alongs that she has planned out and hosted for all of us designers. She has a special gallery link so you can see all that the designers have done in the past five years. Some of the patterns are still offered FREE, others are available at reasonable prices. It was fun to look down memory lane. (I have participated all 5 years.)

My Happy Place Pattern and Giveaway

Hey, hey,

Today's my day!

I am so happy you stopped to see my row.

When Marian from Seam To Be Sew announced this year's row along, I quickly said, "Yes."
Marian organizes such a wonderful Row Along and I have participated for 4 years now.

I knew exactly what my happy place row would be:

The Theater

I enjoy seeing live plays, musicals, and concerts.

They tranport me to another place or time.

I can relax as others tell the story.

My first theatre experience was in Toronto, Canada, watching The Sound of Music in 1973, while on our high school Senior class trip.
The O'Keefe Centre was huge and splendid.

It is now called Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

There are some photos at the link showing the seating, the decor and the stage which bring back memories of that night's performance.

When working, I began going to local theater productions with a group of co-workers. We enjoyed dinner before the performance, saw all types of plays and musicals featuring local talent. I also go to our small-town local plays, which sometimes feature friends and former students.

I took my young daughters to musicals and ballets not too far from home in Grand Rapids. They developed an appreciation for theater.

Here is my row, with a hint of Art Deco.

I had fun designing this and hope you find it fun to sew.

It is all paper pieced.
