March Is A Month of Quilting

This month is ramping up to be a busy month of quilting for me.
March 19 is designated as World Wide Quilting Day.
I am not sure if I will be quilting with others or myself, but I will be quilting!
How many of you will be quilting that day?

I am working on a block swap for the Mid-Century Modern Bee.
We are making 4 inch mini churn dash blocks. I will be sewing 9 blocks.
Each one has to use red. I have 2 done.

As an Island Batiks Ambassador I will be sharing a mini project this month.
I finished the top and am waiting to learn when I will be posting.
I will be sharing directions to reproduce it.

March 23 is my day to post for the
Quilt Qwazy Queens Blog Hop
sponsored by Marian at Seams To Be Sew.

I will be working on my entry for our Quilt Guild Challenge:
a modern twist on the log cabin block.
It might not be due until May, but I want to get going on it.

I wish you a wonderful month of quilty goodness.

Quilty Excitement

Today I opened
the box that arrived from Island Batik.

The contents are the lovely fabrics that I will be using as
one of the Island Batik Ambassadors for 2016.

And buried in the bottom
were some special Superior Threads
to use with one of the collections!

I think tonight I will be dreaming of quilted projects,
the first one will be done this month!
Be sure to watch for my upcoming post.

3 Swap Blocks Done

The blocks asked for by the February Queen Bee have been mailed. I am a member of the Mid-Century Modern Bee and each month a different member is the Queen Bee. The Queen Bee requests a certain block to be made by the other members and they are sent off to her.

This past month we were asked to sew "Books for Baby" blocks using the pattern from the Patchwork Please! by Ayumi Takahashi.

This was fun. I had so many choices of novelty fabrics to use. Then to decide on the spine and corner colors and the background colors. Can't wait to see the entire quilt completed for Live A Colorful Life's grand-daughter.

2 Flea Markets and 1 Quilt Shop

Yep, here is my little quilty math post.

On my recent trip to Florida, I went to a flea market with 2 friends while our husbands went golfing.

In one booth I found a few pieces of fabric that caught my eye. I liked these two fat quarters of confetti fabric for $1. When paying, the lady in the booth said I could choose a free item from the basket.

Well, these peas in pods were too cute to pass up, so this 9 x WOF piece went home with me, too.

At another flea market I found a canning jar with these very nicely sewn yo-yos for $2.50. I had to buy them because the price was right and I would not have to sew them!
Where is the jar, you ask? Filled with sea shells I collected one day.

I was having "quilting withdrawl" after being away from fabric and my sewing machine for a week. So another day, while the guys were golfing, and the ladies were poolside, I went to the quilt shop near the house we were renting.

Quilter's Paradise is a very nice shop with a friendly staff.

They carry a variety of fabrics that would fit the needs of any quilter. A class of beginning quilters was leaving just after I arrived and the ladies were so chatty and happy and expressed their excitement for the next week's lesson.

Dottie is the owner. She showed me how to make a bag with the 2 fat quarters I was purchasing, as she did not have a printed pattern available.

I found a few other pieces of fabric that I really liked.

Dottie told me about the Row by Row from last summer and gave me their free pattern which I will add to the rows I am still working on. I bought this tan batik fabric to use in the row. They will be participating in the 2016 by Row.

Now that I am home, I have some sewing ahead of me!

Tuesday Archives and Free Pattern Link

Val's Quilting Studio

Today, Val's Tuesday Archives features BUTTONS. I am posting the blog post where I used buttons in a cute wallhanging. I also have a free pattern download for the fence block I designed and used in the pattern. The fence block is so versitile it can be used for any season.

Tell me what season you would use it.

Any day quilting is a Happy Day!
Have a Happy Day.
